Designate Funds

One dollar donated to Second Harvest can provide up to 5 meals for people in need.  In these tough economic times, more people than ever are turning to Second Harvest for help meeting their most basic need – Food.  We help families in crisis by putting food on their table so they can concentrate on the other challenges in their lives like heating their homes, putting gas in the car or paying for medicine or health care.  When you have food, you have hope.  We are feeding hope - that tomorrow will be better, that people care about their neighbors, that no one in our community will go hungry.

We can provide this food at extremely low cost because we are acquiring donated food from national sources, the food industry manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, distribution centers, etc.  Food that is good quality but not deemed suitable for retail sales is donated to Feeding America, the nation’s largest charitable food distribution organization.  This food bank is one of 200 food banks nationwide who belong to Feeding America and can take these large donations of semi loads of donated food and bring them out to the people throughout the country who need help meeting their needs. That is how one dollar can go so far, the food is free, the cost is the freight, refrigeration, trucks, etc.  So a little goes a long way at Second Harvest, adding a quarter to your order will provide a lot of food for people in need right here in our local community.
