End-of-Year-Giving

The holidays are here and soon we will be celebrating the New Year.  As 2018 comes to a close, there is still time to help.  End-of-year gifts will enable us to start the new year strong and ready to continue the fight against hunger.

There are many tax-saving opportunities to consider when making a donation.  Consulting your accountant or financial advisor before giving can help you decide what is the best way for you to give.

Monetary donations to Second Harvest are tax deductible.  Whether it is a one-time donation or
giving monthly through the Feeding Hope Monthly Giving Club, we will provide the documentation needed for tax filing.

Gifts of Stock is an option.  Instead of cashing in a stock and paying taxes consider transferring the stock to Second Harvest.  Since we are a nonprofit no taxes will be taken allowing us to receive the full stock value minus some minimal fees.

IRA Giving:  Individuals who are 70½ years old or older, have an IRA and are required to take a minimum distribution under the law, can take advantage of a simple way to help the people we serve and receive tax benefits in return.  Up to $100,000 can be given from an IRA directly to a qualified charity such as Second Harvest without having to pay income taxes on the money.  This law no longer has an expiration date so individuals are free to make annual gifts to us this year and well into the future.

We can also accept tribute gifts, real-estate, wills and bequests, planned giving and donor advised funds.

*It is wise to consult with your tax professionals if you are contemplating a charitable gift under the extended law.
